Hyman “Luke” Meece, Sr., 72, of Decatur, IL passed away on Wednesday (Sept. 14, 2011) at St. Mary’s Hospital.
A service to celebrate Luke’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 17, 2011) at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Blue Mound with Pastor Sally Hamon officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Harristown Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
Mr. Meece was born on October 18, 1938 in Russell Springs, KY, the son of Selby and Pauline (Harris) Meece. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Luke was a retired self-employed truck driver, driving for A.D.M. and Carry Transport. He also drove cars for Jackson Ford in Decatur, IL. He enjoyed horses, barrel racing and being a member of the Trail Riders Club. Luke married Betty Ann Dipple on October 1, 1960. She preceded him in death on February 20, 2006.
Surviving is his daughter: Gail A. (Brent) Doyle of Blue Mound, IL; brothers: Neil Meece of Dunnville, KY and Gary Meece of Shelbyville, IL; sister: Dina (Gene) Moore of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren: Brentny (Kaleb) Renfro of Lincoln, NB, Kristen Doyle of Blue Mound, IL and Heather Doyle of Blue Mound, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son: Hyman “Luke” Meece Jr., brother: Ray Meece, sisters: Wanda Luttrell and Juanita York.
